Abstract

|
Three Cases of hydronephrosis secondary to ureteropelvic obstruction of non-calculous type were reported. All of the cases were young soldiers who had run a long clinical course of non-specifc symptoms and signs. On physical examination kidney was palpated as a huge abdominal mass in two cases out of three. X-ray showed non-functioning kidneys in all of them.
At the operation table the involved kidneys were found to be enormously enlarged and cystic, containing aprroximately 2,000 ml. of thinyello wish fluid. The largest one measured 20 ¡¿ 20 ¡¿ 20 §¯. in maximum dimensions. An aberrant renal artery was found in one of the cases.
Ureteropelvic junction was distinctly narrowed and firm in consistency. Microscopically, luminal epithelium was demonstrable although the caliber being markedly reduced. Lining epithelium was of transitional type. And the wall consisted of hyperplastic muscle fibers as well as fibrous contracture. Inflammatory cellular infiltration was meager. Above findings were qualitatively same in all of the three cases examined.
